Andjelo Mwembya, Co-Founder and Chairman
Has over 25 years of experience in engineering management, business strategy, and strategic business development in both the private and public sectors. Mr. Mwembya received a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Regarded as a trailblazer in the critical / strategic minerals trading and mining industry, Mr. Mwembya has also made a name for himself in telecom/IT and real estate investment circles across many international borders. Over the years, Mr. Mwembya has developed initiatives and opportunities aimed at increasing the quality of business in Sub-Saharan Africa markets. His expertise includes strategic business communication, negotiation, customer relationship management, project management and client retention. He has developed techniques for analytic and strategic decision-making processes. Mr. Andjelo Cherty serves as Senior Strategist and Chairman of Legatum Strategies, LLC. Mr. Mwembya has served a co-host of the Mandela Fellowship aka Young African Leaders Initiative of the Obama Administration in San Antonio-Austin, Texas from 2014-2016, which has spanned to the creation of the Young African Diaspora Initiative-YADI launched since 2017.
Alain Ikombo, Co-founder and Senior Principal
Alain Ikombo is co-founder and Principal at Legatum Strategies, LLC. With over 21 years of experience in emerging markets, Mr. Ikombo has made a name for himself as a passionate Pan-Africanist through his participation in causes that aim to advance economic development and human capacity building within and outside the African Continent. His participation in leadership initiatives like the Young African Diaspora Initiative (YADI), alongside co-founder Mr. Mwembya, and his role as VP of Business Development for IKOMPANI LLC, a business advisory firm that focuses on linking American and Scandinavian investment capital with investment opportunities in emerging markets in sub-Saharan Africa, position Mr. Ikombo at the forefront of industry standards and innovation. Mr. Ikombo and his wife live in Washington, DC and he enjoys playing golf whenever his schedule allows.
Johnny N. Kalenga
Serves as Legatum Strategies Great Lakes region's manager. Mr. Kalenga has been involved in economic development (poverty reduction), Institutional entrepreneurship, and Conflict resolution for the past 12 years. Mr. Kalenga Mr. Kalenga overcomes the challenges and problems of our strategic business development as a key team player in Africa and Asia. Has a bachelor’s degree in economics - Development Studies and received a prestigious Korean government scholarship to pursue a Master of Arts in NGO studies at the Graduate School of International Studies (Aiou University) in Korea also researches Institutional Entrepreneurship. He worked as an intern at Young African Diaspora Initiative from 2017 to 2020. Then worked as a General Manager of the branch at Jinan steel, a South Korean company in Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2020 to 2022. Mr. Kalenga is fluent in Korean, French, English, Lingala and Swahil.
Alec Singer
Serves as a Junior Research Assistant at Legatum Strategies. He originally graduated from American University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and a minor in Entrepreneurship, and he currently studies Geospatial Intelligence at the University of Maryland Graduate School. His primary background and studies equipped him to better understand US history and politics, and he has spent extensive time running mock-up starts. He worked after college on the Don Carlson for Congress campaign in various tasks, but primarily as a Canvasser and political issue/candidate researcher. His specialties are American history, politics, business research and writing, website design, and video editing.
Segunda Mayingi
Serves as a Junior Research Assistant at Legatum Strategies. Segunda Mayingi’s educational journey started at Morgan State University with a major in Business Administration before transitioning to the University of Southern Maine to focus on Marketing. This progression has equipped her with understanding of business principles and marketing strategies, which she applies in her role. Her expertise in Social Media, cultivated through her experience as a Micro Influencer and building her own personal brand, further enhancing her value to the team at Legatum Strategies.
